Calisolar Acquires Up 6N Silicon

Sunnyvale-based Calisolar has made plans to acquire one of Toronto’s clean tech companies as news has hit the Internet the start up is buyding 6N Silicon. 6N is venture backed by Good Energies, Ventures West Management and Yaletown Venture Partners. 6N Silicon is one of several production companies that supplies the kind of silicon Calisolar uses.

“This is a major step towards our mission to reduce the cost of solar,” said Calisolar CEO Roy Johnson, who was visiting Calisolar‘s research and development center in Berlin. “6N will remain in Toronto as a wholly owned subsidiary, but we will continue to buy silicon from other suppliers as well.”

Executives declined to disclose the size of the deal, but did share that it was a stock-for-stock transaction between the two privately held companies.
